Crimson Annual Red Clover
Crimson annual red clover is a rapid growing, single season clover. It's a popular cover crop species with taller stems, bigger flowers, and larger seeds than perennial red clovers. Oftentimes grown as a cover crop, crimson annual red clover will fix a moderate level of nitrogen into the soil. It does not handle cold temperatures and should be grown as a warm season cover crop in the upper Midwest. Crimson clover is widely adapted and is commonly used in wildlife food plot plantings.
Grower’s Note: These seeds are not pre-inoculated. Crimson annual red clover is part of the legume family and may require inoculant treatment for best results. Plants in the legume family benefit tremendously from adding rhizobacteria or “inoculant” to the seed. The bacteria added to the seed forms a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship with the legume plant roots. The bacteria help capture nitrogen from the air and makes it available to the plant roots which improves overall plant growth. Unless crimson annual red clover has been grown in the field within the last three years, it is best to inoculate seed right before planting. We offer a full selection of inoculants based on species. Please follow the instructions that come with the inoculant for best results.
