Beets & Sweets is a unique mix of sweet, low-growing sugar beets and brassicas; a hearty feast of sugary leaves, stems, and roots. The frost-tolerant foliage will stay green well into the fall. Purple top turnips provide additional extended season forage. This mix is a favorite of Deer Creek's food plot growers.

Percent Composition:

  • 45% Sugar Beet
  • 20% Swiss Chard
  • 15% Forage Turnip

    Your Rating
Is mid July to late for the Beets and Sweets mix for planting. My small plot 1/8 acre had soil test done for Bassicas and PH is 6.9. It’s been disk up and round up applied. Location is NE Wisconsin,
In NE Wisconsin, Beets and Sweets Food Plot Mix can be planted anytime between June thru August. If you plant earlier you'll have larger sugar beets. If you plant later, you'll still get a ton of lush, green browse for fall hunting season.
Why is this product not recommended for southern states like Mississippi ?
Sugar Beets can be grown in more hot and more humid environments, such as Mississippi, however, there is a higher risk factor with problematic insects, disease, and producing a lower-quality crop. The sugar beet plant grows until harvested or the growth is halted by a hard freeze. Sugar beets prefer locations with sunny days with 65-80 degree (F) temperatures and night temperatures of 40 to 50 degrees (F). With these favorable conditions, sugar beets will produce a crop from 90-100 days post-emergence. A well-prepared, weed-free seedbed, clear of rocks or stones, is not only desirable, but necessary for a quality crop.
Can you apply seed with broadcast spreader and coldapack
