Peredovik black sunflowers are an oilseed crop that are a favorite of bird species. This tall growing plant can reach up to six feet tall and reaches maturity in about 80-100 days. Compared to other sunflower varieties, black oilseed sunflowers are noted for their higher oil content and meatier seeds which provide greater nutrition benefits. Game birds and song birds will flock to these plants as they reach maturity and produce seeds for them to eat. Black sunflowers are a favorite of dove, quail, pheasant, turkeys, and song birds.

    Your Rating
I was just wondering germination rates for your seeds. Do you have them available somewhere on this site?
Thanks for visiting Deer Creek Seed. To answer your question, we do not list our germination rates due to the fact that each lot of seed has its own germination rate. We test our seed every year, or even in some cases, more than once a year. We understand seed is an investment, and we only sell high quality seed that we would grow ourselves. If you would like more information about a certain seed we carry and its germination rate, please email our customer service at and our customer service team is happy to assist you. Thank you for the great question!
What do you recommend spraying on these for weed control
The best weed control is a well-prepared, weed-free seedbed prior to planting. Some post-plant options include sethoxydim (Poast), quizalafop (Assure II), and clethodim (Select, Select Max), which target grass-like weeds only. The herbicide label is the law - please follow the instructions of use per the herbicide label. If other questions arise, contact our Customer Service team toll-free at (877)247-3736, email us at, or drop us a line on our website chat feature for more assistance.
Are the Peredovik Black Sunflower seed Roundup ready?
The Peredovik Black Sunflower seeds are conventionally grown, untreated, non-GMO seed, and these seeds are not Roundup Ready. Thanks for the great question!
can sunflower seeds harvested be plant the following year with any success
If sunflower seeds are harvested at seed maturity, dried properly, and stored in cool, dry conditions out of direct sunlight, success can happen - that is, if our wildlife friends don't eat all the seeds! Give it a try, it's a fun experiment and easy to do with a plant such as sunflowers.
