Norcen birdsfoot trefoil is a perennial legume crop species known for its winter hardiness and water tolerance. Trefoils are not as productive as alfalfas or clovers in tons of dry matter per acre, but when grown in wet or low pH situations, birdsfoot trefoil may out yield and outlast stands of other legumes. Birdsfoot trefoil is slower to establish and is later in spring recovery than alfalfa or red clover. Once established, trefoil is very persistent making it a good choice for food plot plantings, pastures, and erosion control.

Grower’s Note: This seed comes pre-inoculated with rhizobacteria. Birdsfoot trefoil is a member of the legume plant family and forms a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship with rhizobacteria in the soil. The bacteria help capture nitrogen from the air and makes it available to the plant roots, which improves overall plant growth. However, rhizobacteria is not always present in the soil, especially if the host legume has not been grown in the target area in the last three years. Therefore, this seed is pre-inoculated to jump-start that symbiotic relationship.

Have multiple 20X 30to40 yard food plots in woods, With clay soil. Use chisel plow and small disc behind ATV ,lot of lime. Past clovers done well others poor. Sugestions. Birdsfoot trefoil?
Yes, birdsfoot trefoil would be a great addition in the environment that you've described. It can handle wetter soils, as well as clay or rocky soils. Red clovers can also handle wetter soils and low pH soils, however it has the tendency to suppress the growth of other legumes. Therefore, it may be best to alternate plots with red clover or trefoil, but not both. Also, red clover has a higher sunlight requirement, so it should be used in a wooded plot that is on the edge or that gets above average sunlight. Finally, because wooded plots tend to receive only partial sunlight throughout the day, you may want to consider our Logger's Trail Food Plot Mix, which has grass and clover species that can handle less sunlight, low pH, and damp soils.
