Overview
Kodiak bio-fumigant mustard is a cutting-edge brassica meant specifically for cover cropping. It was conventionally bred to produce glucosinolate compounds that are biologically active against insects, nematodes, and fungal pathogens. Kodiak also stands out among other mustards for producing a large amount of biomass. Plant this mustard to help increase organic matter, improve the long-term health of your soil, and provide an all-natural alternative to controlling pests.
To get the most benefit from your Mighty Mustard® planting, we recommend that you mow at or before pod set, and then immediately incorporate the green plant material. After incorporating with tillage, wait three weeks before you seed your next crop. Waiting is critical because the glucosinolates that suppress weeds and soilborne diseases may also suppress your next crop if not given enough time to break down. It is highly recommended to terminate the mustard crop before it produces seed with either tillage or chemical controls.
Kodiak seeding rates:
4 - 6 week desired growth period: 15-20 lbs/acre or .75 lbs per 1,000 square feet
8 - 12 week desired growth period: 10-15 lbs/acre or .75 lbs per 1,000 square feet
Kodiak plant height:
4 - 6 week desired growth period: 1 to 2 feet
8 - 12 week desired growth period: 6 to 7 feet at full bloom
