Overview

Ogle oat is a medium maturing oat variety developed at the University of Illinois. Ogle has very good straw strength and produces high grain yields in the absence of leaf rust. Ogle is susceptible to both leaf rust and smut, but possesses tolerance to red leaf virus. The kernel color is yellow and it has slightly below average test weight. Spring oats are commonly planted in early spring for summer time grain and straw harvest. They can also be used for emergency forage or for cover cropping.
