Norcen Birdsfoot Trefoil - Lotus corniculatus
Birdsfoot Trefoil is a perennial legume crop specie known for its tolerance of cooler weather and water. Trefoil's are not as productive as alfalfa or clovers in terms of dry matter per acre but when grown in wet or low pH situations, Birdsfoot Trefoil may out yield and outlast stands of other legumes. Birdsfoot Trefoil is slower to establish and is later in spring recovery than alfalfa or red clover. Once established, trefoil is very persistent making it a good choice for wildlife, pastures, and erosion control.
