Common Red Top - Agrostis alba
Red top is a cool season perennial native grass adapted for cool wet soils. Red top tolerates very low pH's and will grow in many wet areas where other native grasses may not grow. Red top can grow to heights of 2 to 4 feet. When fully matured it will put out a yellow seed head. Red top may be used for grazing or harvesting. It makes a relatively low quality feed source and should not be overgrazed or cut.
