Wisconsin Turfgrass Association
Elects Biddick President

Madison, WI – The Wisconsin Turfgrass Association (WTA) has elected Dan Biddick to a three-year term as president of the organization.

Improving turfgrass management through research and education, the WTA represents sod farmers, lawn and landscape professionals, athletic field managers and golf course maintenance personnel in a unique partnership with the University of Wisconsin – Madison. It provides its members with valuable information on environmentally responsible turfgrass management.

Dan has been a board member of the Wisconsin Turfgrass Association for over five years. He is also Vice President – Professional Turf Products Division for Deer Creek Seed, Inc., and works closely with the company’s customers. He grew up in a Wisconsin family-owned seed business, where he participated in all aspects of the seed industry—production, marketing, sales, purchasing, inventory control, and customer service.

The WTA is based at the University of Wisconsin – Madison’s O. J. Noer Research & Education Facility. Researchers use the facility to compare different turfgrass varieties, mowing practices, irrigation, equipment and strategies for fertilizer, irrigation and pest management.  The university's only single-commodity based laboratory, the facility also tests cultural practices and turfgrass varieties requiring lower inputs of pesticides and fertilizer while still maintaining quality landscapes. Providing instruction in horticulture, soil science, entomology, and plant pathology, the station is also used to evaluate prairie and ornamental grasses. Homeowners may call the facility at 608-845-2535 to get unbiased, expert answers to turf-related questions.

Headquartered in Ashland, Wisconsin, Deer Creek Seed is the only seed company in Wisconsin that still grows and conditions turf, forage and wildlife seed, continually perfecting its seed stewardship. Augmenting these strengths, access to other specialized domestic and international growers enables Deer Creek Seed to meet its customers’ precise requirements.

Who’s Been Eating in My Food Plot? Photo Contest

Our First Winner!

"Talk about hitting the Sweet Spot! Over the last two years, my daughter Aubrey and I have been hunting a quarter-acre plot of Deer Creek Seed’s Brassica Blend, tucked away between two bedding areas. Three trips to a ground blind over a 2-year period, with barely more than 3 hours of hunting time, yielded 3 shots, 2 deer tagged, and lots of wonderful memories. That's what I call a Sweet Spot! I know where Aubrey is going to be this coming bow season when she can find a couple hours. Thanks Deer Creek Seed!"

Deer Creek Seed Re-Launches
Premium Wildlife Food Plot Seed

Ashland, Wisconsin, April 2, 2007—Seven different blends make up Deer Creek Seed’s newly revamped line of wildlife food plot mixes being introduced under the Master Seedsmen™ trademark.

“We’re the only source left in Wisconsin that actually grows and conditions wildlife food plot, turf and other specialty seed—that’s what seedsmen do,” explains W. H. Leakey, founder and president of Deer Creek Seed. “Our continuing stewardship of these disciplines is complemented by access to improved varieties from breeding programs around the world.”

“We’re also avid hunters who manage our own wildlife food plots,” adds Rod Ellwanger, VP of Sales for Deer Creek Seed as well as a Certified Crop Advisor and agronomist for over 20 years. “Our field testing means these mixtures are perpetually evaluated and improved to produce an attractive and nourishing food source for deer, grouse, turkey, pheasant and other wildlife. It’s professional seed for results no other wildlife food plot mix can top.” Blends of annual and perennial grasses, legumes and other species are selected to supply a dependable and long-lasting food source as well as provide cover for all wildlife.

Leakey believes his company’s combination of experienced seedsmen and seasoned sportsmen adds up to an attractive option for Midwest hunters—as well as the game they’re hunting.

All seven blends are available in convenient 4.5 and 9 pound packages. In addition, Deer Creek Seed’s short-run pack line offers custom blending and/or custom private label packaging.

Although the new packaging provides plenty of information on how to select and maintain food plots for various Midwestern game species and growing conditions, hunters are also invited to visit the company’s website (www.deercreekseed.com) for additional information to help set themselves up for a great hunt.

Deer Creek Seed, Inc. has been producing turf, forage and other specialty seed for over 25 years.
