Where it is adapted, alone or in mixtures, alfalfa is one of the highest yielding forage plants available. Alfalfa produces best on well-drained soil with good water holding capacity and a pH of 6.6 or above. It is long-lived and drought resistant. Choose varieties with resistance to Phytophthora and Aphanomyces Root Rot.
